old tvI have such a love hate relationship with television.  I disconnected service for 9 months – partly for budgetary reasons, partly because we never watched it, and partly because when they did, my kids became zombies and I felt like I was in competition with the darn thing.

Recently, however, I turned the service back on.  Why?  I missed the sports events.  I missed being able to talk about Glee.  And I missed knowing what was going on in the world at a moment’s notice…speeches, local events, national events, breaking news, and ultimately, I missed it more than my kids.

But for today, it is off.  To make this Monday matter, turn off your TV.  Why?  Because the average person watches an average of 40 days per year (isn’t that enough?)  And children spend nearly 1,100 hours watching TV a year compared to only 900 hours in school and – shockingly! – only 33.33 hours a year in meaningful conversations with their parents.  Makes you wonder what is really educating your kids.

Those stats make me so sad. And jealous. Because I can’t find time to watch nearly enough. Can I meet with these people? Can they teach me their time management skills?
