I don't have children at home anymore. They're 38 now. However, things haven't changed that much since I did. I always sent mine out the door with $10 in hand. Having twins that was $20. I never expected my friends to pay my childrens way for anything. In fact I was so grateful they were invited to go along, I would had probably paid more, just for the pleasure of some free time. My Father always told me to carry an extra $20 just in case...... Today it may be an extra $100, but children need to learn nothing comes free, always be prepared for the unexpected, and helping out is always appreciated.

Just had that conversation with a friend today. She was kind enough to take my kid for me for a few hours while I got my hair done. When I picked her up, there were 8 kids at her house ( only two of them hers). most had been there for 24 hours. Only a couple came with some cash to go along with the entertaining they were hoping for. (Movies, lunch, bowling). I am very grateful that I shoved $20 in my daughters hand as she was dropped off. Thanks for reminding me, not to take those wonderful gestures of help for granted. It not only takes a village to raise a child --it takes cold, hard cash too!
